I already hated shaving to begin with

Well, both teams out. Not much left to say. For all the things you could complain about, things that made things difficult, and at times unfair, in the end the teams lost due to things they had control of and simply didn't execute.

As for the beard, this was one of the better starts I got off to. It really started to come in nice and was about to hit it's stride. I expected a a nice bushy beard by Game 4 of round two, but it seems that's not meant to be.

The purpose of this blog was a fun way to bring attention to the charity effort. As of now I am 4th on the leaderboard with $302! I set high expectations, but I am not disappointed in any way! $302 toward a good cause = success any day of the week!

It seems the site will still be up and running so if you still wish to donate go ahead!

I'll have the final beard photo and the clean shaven photo later, but until then have a great off season, keep your head up, and I'll see ya next time!

Beardalicious

The beard grows on as we head into the weekend. BIG game tonight for the Phantoms as they look to avoid elimination at the hands of the Hershey Bears.

Speaking of the Phantoms, a picture from last night is tonight's photo update as it's nice and close up. Ignore the ridiculous face or that fact it looks like I just got slammed into the net. It does give good beard detail.

As for donations, I got a group donation that was given to me personally which I then put onto the site, which bumped me all the way up to $300 and into the 3rd positon on the leaderboard. Thank you so much to everyone that donated, but we still could do more! So go donate!

(If you have any issues please let me know, the site's a bit iffy at times)

On the team beard front, no new standouts from what I saw, and I haven't seen any recent Phantoms pics to weigh in on them. But I'll ask you loyal beard blog readers? How's mine looking?

You know what you have to do

Well, obviously I'm not happy with what's going on in the series. I'll save my frustrations as this is the beard blog, but there is one thing I have to get off my chest.

In Game 4 with the team down 2-1 in the game and the series, we fans cheered loudly through 2 consecutive TV timeouts including the game play between them. That doesn't happen in other cities. Many people can knock the team, or the bad fans that are apart of every fanbase, but that moment right there showed Philly fans at their best, and it was one of the best things I was apart of; something I'll definitely never forget. National media, ignorant opposing fans and anyone else who wants to hate on Philly fans, save it. Because right now you're dead wrong.

This playoff beard for charity is just my little part of this fan base. Please pledge your support to my beard at:

Time apart makes the beard grow strong

Howsit!

Had some internet problems the other day, so I missed a day to blog, but don't worry I'm back now!

Getting ready to head down to the playoff block party soon and want to remind anyone that is going and reads this blog to:
1) Donate before you go!

https://www.beardathon.com/flyers/Dancing%20Guy/profile.aspx

2) Look for me so you can see first hand my playoff beard, not the the terribly unclear cell phone pics.

Speaking of the beard, it's really starting to show darker, and has gotten a tad bit itchy. I tried to take various days off from shaving toward the end of the season to prepare my skin for the irritation, and I think it might be paying off as I don't seem to have too much redness underneath.

Tonight, I think I might be able to go down for the Flyers pre-game warmups so hopefully I can provide a description tomorrow of the playoff beards, which I promised to do earlier, but clearly didn't.

Don't miss your chance to be a part of my playoff beard! Donate today! Let's go for the leaderboard!

Saturday Nights are right for Beards!

Hey! Let's not even bother with trying to explain what just happened there. Beard time!

I was thinking that a good blog post would be some beards from Flyers past. Enter WIP radio personality, Metro columnist, regular Beard Blog reader, and author of Flyer'd Up!, Brian Startare. I e-mailed Brian to see if he could give me a quick rundown of Best 5 Flyers Beards, which we'll get to in a moment.

For those of you who haven't heard of Flyer'd Up, it is a great read and a must have for Flyers fans. It has stories, trivia, facts, and it is laid out in an easy to read format. Not only will you read it, you will constantly be referencing it and looking at it when discussing Flyers hockey with your friends.

Look, I know what you're saying, nice pitch there Shawny, but I really do enjoy this book and while Brian is my friend, I can independently recommend Flyer'd Up! www.flyersfanbook.com

Back to the beards....

BEST 5 FLYERS BEARDS by Brian Startare

Glen Cochrane...a lumberjack at heart

Bill Flett...The orginal Cowboy!

Marty Biron...last season's locks...impressive

Norm Barnes..classic defenseman and well groomed!

Bernie Parent

...still looks great today, even grey!

Whatta think? Someone missing from this list? I will tell you one thing that is missing, your donation! I'm only at $79.00 so far, so I remind you Beard Blog readers to pledge my beard at:

Phantoms Game 2 tonight! Another reminder to those in the Philadelphia area that tickets are only $10, plus if you attend you can see my beard in person!!

Photo Update:

Let's Grow Flyers!

Game 2 is tonight! I'm hoping the team will show up.

We'll be without Downshall as he serves a one game suspension, and hopefully Don Van Massenhoven isn't scheduled for the game. I want to take a quick NHL fan position here, not a Flyers fan position, Don Van Massenhoven called a horrible game and set a horrible tone for this series. Did anyone else feel the game lack the grit of a rivalry? Probably because the Flyers endless penalties proved that dumb penalties are going to be called.

Let's face it, Game 1 was lame from an NHL standpoint.

But onto the beards!

Simon Gagne looks to be the favorite thus far, but I believe he came in with a little growth, but I think I like it so much because of the memories of baby faced Gags in previous playoffs.

I expected more from Darroll Powe, but I think he'll come on strong late. The real surprise was Claude Giroux. He is totally rocking a "This man is wanted for questioning in regards to several stolen pickup trucks in the area" look, but it is growth and it is a great start.

As for mine (another undetailed pic below), it really is starting to come into it's own. I also was reminded that my hair grows in a weird way. I'll try to explain this the best I can but my beard kind of swirls. Not like it is curly, but if I was to shave "with the grain" it'd be swooping motions. You might be able to see it in the picture below, and obviously you don't care, but it's just a tidbit that can be featured in a blog like this.

I'm up to $75-80 now (I'm doing a dollar a day per day in the playoffs which would be 5 but it won't register till the end of the playoffs) but I need you to donate! I would love to get on the leaderboard AND the charitable donation might be just enough to swing some karma in our favor. So c'mon, pledge my beard!

Quick Phantoms Update: Phantoms dropped the first game of their series to Hershey 3-2, but it looks like this series is going to be a lot closer than people think! Game 2 Saturday....for all you locals, tickets are only $10!! (Which is also a good donation amount!)
